Irwin Army Community Hospital Fort Riley, Kansas The "Big Red One" Hospital

warrior transition battalion

Irwin Army Community Hospital oversees the Warrior Transition Battalion to provide greater care to the Soldiers-in-Transition. The collaboration between the two organizations facilitates access to care and accommodations for a population that requires daily, sometimes multiple, appointments.

Healing & Transition

The Fort Riley Warrior & Transition Battalion has the singular mission of healing. The WTB provides holistic care and structural support to Soldiers who requires at least six months of rehabilitative treatment or multiple conditions that require complex case management. Patients, or Soldiers-in-Transition, assigned to the WTB are subsequently restored to the Regular Army or transitioned to civilian life.

The “Big Red One” Hospital is linked to the WTB complex by virtue of a skybridge that requires no change in elevation. The co-location of a modern hospital that opened in 2016 with a new WTB complex that opened six years earlier creates the best conditions for healing and restoration.
